I agree that all this is important at some level, but what happened to the home ownership issue? It seems that it has slid down to the bottom of the pile, with just a few private companies trying to recreate a taste for home ownership.

But now, after letting many thousands of possible home buyers sit on the fence, waiting for our elected officials to make up their mind about extending the tax credit into next year, we all in this real estate industry should be thankful, I guess.

While banks, brokers and others try to pull up the home buying numbers from the low levels that we have been seeing, Realtors have joined the ranks of the unemployed, but without the unemployment checks that come with it.

This brings me to a point. If you want buyers to jump back into the home-buying process, why not give the $8,000 to them to buy a house now. It could be in the form of a voucher that has monetary worth, which could be submitted to the Government for payment, either during or after a closing and also after verification of eligibility. Maybe the voucher could go right into the deal to cover some of the costs incurred by the purchaser.

Waiting for a tax credit to come down the road is not really helping the buyer come up with money to purchase a home. Let’s face it, the Government is just giving away money to losing causes all the time. Here’s a good cause!

The Feds did not tell Wall Street, the banks or the automobile industry, that the had to wait and take a tax credit to get them by. Why should the real estate industry have to wait? Isn’t it a priority too?
